Sterling National Bank – Up Close & Personal…
On Thursday, February 4th, Sterling Trade Capital and Sterling Factors Corp. hosted an informal networking reception for STC’s clients and their associates at Sterling's headquarters at 650 Fifth Ave. Members of Sterling's Executive and Senior Management team welcomed a group of CPA’s and Attorneys who serve the South Asian community. They were greeted by our Chairman, Louis J. Cappelli and President, John C. Millman.
The guests were acquainting themselves with Sterling and were given an opportunity to make face to face contact with key decision makers. They enjoyed an array of cuisines and were impressed with Sterling’s hospitality.

SOLUTIONS FOR NEW CONDOS: BUILDING A SOLID FOUNDATION FOR YOUR ASSOCIATION
Sterling National Bank co-sponsored a breakfast seminar along with Braverman & Associates, Cooper Square Realty and NNk CPA’s. The event took place at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York.
This seminar provided Board members of new buildings with essential tools they need to create a harmonious, well functioning community; address issues with their property’s physical structure; ensure their association’s financial well being and maintain property values in a challenging economic environment. There were 4 panelists including Ken Cohen, Senior V.P., Commercial Real Estate Division.
Guests were participating in a Q& A session which was handled by the panel in an informal round table setting. One guest mentioned that “the use of a moderator made it was easy to ask questions”. The ballroom was filled with Condo board members as well as Presidents & Treasurers of newly built condominiums.

Sterling National Bank Exhibited at the 8th Annual Top Women in Business Networking Awards Dinner
The Queens Courier and Queens Business Today are hosting the eighth annual Top Women in Business Networking Awards Dinner which attracts the borough’s best, brightest and most influential business leaders.
This year, they will honor female figures in industries ranging from finance to medicine who have demonstrated exceptional leadership within their business and local communities. The gathering will also raise money for the Queens Museum of Art. The event took place at Terrace on the Park in Corona, Queens.

Sterling National Bank slides into Home Plate!
Sterling hosted a Business Development Event at Citifield in Queens, NY. Guests were invited to network, enjoy dinner and watch the New York Mets in action against the Chicago Cubs. The newly built stadium was quite a sight especially from the 4th floor event suites. Many of Sterling’s business relationship managers, division heads and branch managers were all part of the group that entertained a variety of guests from business owners and CPA’s to attorneys and other referral sources.
Our guests had the opportunity to meet with Michael Bizenov, Executive Vice President who personally met with the attendees and made them feel welcome. One attendee mentioned that “you don’t get the same attention at other corporate events” and that “it feels good to be recognized and greeted by your name”. It’s all part of Sterling’s high-touch, hands-on approach.
Not only was the weather bright & sunny, but the Mets taking home the win was a great ending to a perfect night.

Almost every business has Intellectual property issues. They either protect such assets or get sued for using another’s. Restaurants protect their names, retail stores get sued for copied items; a sales company uses a software invention or creates a trade secret customer database. Intellectual property means trademarks, copyrights, patents, and trade secrets.
This course provided lawyers the basics in each of these areas, and showed the general practitioner when and how to utilize an IP attorney.

Sterling National Bank presented a Complimentary CPE Business Breakfast Seminar Series on ETHICS in New York and Long Island. This seminar offered 2.5 CPE credits.
This interactive session provided an overview of the CPA ethics and regulatory system, addressed important concepts and principles affecting audit, tax, and other specialized service areas, and discussed how the ethics/regulatory system benefits clients and CPAs alike. The events took place at Sterling National Bank’s headquarters at 650 Fifth Ave in New York as well as at their offices in Woodbury, Long Island.

Sterling National Bank presented a CPE Business Breakfast Seminar with Raich Ende & Malter & Co. This seminar offered 2.5 CPE credits.
Sterling conducted an informative breakfast seminar on Tuesday, May 11th and May 19th for CPAs and Accountants looking to receive CPE credits. The seminar was presented by Paul Gordon; High Net Worth Practice, Tax Planning & Wealth Management and Howard Horton, Director of Quality Control of Raich, Ende & Malter, CO LLP.
Part one of the seminar focused on the numerous tax provisions, it’s ramifications and issues that needed to be addressed for the coming year. They also touched on what to expect in 2011. Part two talked about SSARS 19 changes to compilation and review guidance.
The seminar was held at corporate headquarters and accommodated close to 40 CPA’s and Accountants and in Long Island at the Milleridge Inn where over 50 attendees were present.

Sterling National Bank Sponsored & Exhibited at the HIA Show
Sterling National Bank sponsored and exhibited at the HIA (Hauppauge Industrial Association) Tradeshow and Conference on Thursday, May 27th at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood, Long Island.
The HIA show is the largest business tradeshow on Long Island and is a great place to gain exposure and make new contacts. Hundreds of attendees were onsite walking the show as well as attending the many informative seminars which took place during the day. The show also featured a networking reception where guests met with exhibitors.
Attendees who stopped by at the Sterling table were greeted by Maryanne Lindenbaum, First Vice President/Cash Management Specialist, Adrienne Greene; VP & Branch Manager of the Great Neck branch, Michael Hawkins; VP & Branch Manager of the Woodbury branch and Eric Garcia of Sterling National Mortgage Company. There were other members of Sterling’s Management team that were on hand networking and meeting with the attendees as well.

Wine & Cheese Networking Reception at the Great Neck Branch
The very courteous staff at the Great Neck branch hosted a networking reception on Thursday, June 17th. Amongst the guests were local business professionals who were pleased with the hospitality. They were treated to an assortment of wine along with exotic foods. “I would not have changed a thing” said Adrienne Greene, VP and Branch Manager. One lucky winner received a wine basket as well. It’s important to stay connected with the community and this allows for that to happen.

Nasim Siddiqi, VP & Director of Business, Sterling Factors Corp. presented his topic on Financing for Importers and Exporters while Adrienne Greene, VP & Branch Manager of the Great Neck branch was onsite networking with attendees. Among the guests were local town officials as well as members of the Department of Commerce and the Suffolk County Economic Development and Workforce housing.
The symposium focused on International Trade: Business Retention Strategies- “How to Outperform Your Competition”. There were a good amount of leads received especially for Export clients. It was held at Suffolk County Community College in Long Island.

The seminar was titled Financial Forecasts and provided an overview of how to prepare and review a financial forecast. The presenters emphasized on the key differences between a forecast and projection.
The speaker was Mark Cuccia of Hertz Herson & Co. LLP whose specialty is assisting clients with forecast and projection modeling. The breakfast took place on October 13th at our headquarters at 650 Fifth Ave. 2 CPE credits were offered for attending.

The Long Island City Business Development Corporation (LICBDC) hosted one of the biggest networking events in Queens at its annual trade show and luncheon on November 17th at Terrace on the Park. This year, 3,500 local businesses across the borough attended. NY State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli was keynote speaker. Sterling National Bank Presented a Complimentary CPE Seminar
Sterling National Bank continued its series of business breakfast seminars with a session on Year End Tax Planning on Wednesday, December 8th at their headquarters at 650 Fifth Ave. The session provided information on key provisions of 2010 Tax Legislation, 2010 Year Individual Tax Planning Ideas, State and Local Tax matters and a discussion of potential post election tax changes.
The session was presented by Bruce Levinson, Partner, Hertz Herson & Company LLP and offered 2 CPE credits to all attendees. In attendance were John Henry, VP & Branch Manager of the Park Avenue branch and Anthony Cantone, VP & Branch Manager of the 42 Broadway branch.

The event took place at LIMANI restaurant in Roslyn, New York. Members were given the opportunity to bring business contacts as their guests and introduce them to senior members of Sterling National Bank. The Advisory Board plays an important role as they refer new business and contacts to the bank. Everyone had an enjoyable evening.
